In the 1980s JoAnne Brasil lived with Hilde in Hilde's house on Haste Street in Berkeley. They became close friends and JoAnne discovered a lasting interest in Hilde's life and writing -- and a fascination with the city of Dresden.

Based on her life with Hilde, JoAnne wrote a novel The Wander Theater, and then a corresponding play for three actors, performed at the Griffen Theatre in Salem MA on November 12, 2010.
